So guys its been a little while due to me being real busy finishing up school and living the life up here in Vancouver. The sun’s been shining and I’ve been out enjoying the gorgeous pacific northwest so I haven’t been inside with the computer much.

But for this news I am sitting and hacking away at the keys to spread the news that Oakland has passed a new ordinance that raises the tax paid on the sale of medical marijuana. This is great news for the simple fact that it brings a solid legitimacy to the sale of marijuana. Oakland is now the nation’s first city to directly tax the herb and support the sale of medical marijuana.

The city set at 1.8% tax on medical marijuana sold in the city. This tax is expected to raise at least $400,000 and perhaps more that $1 million annually according to the wall street journal. The city of Oakland is currently suffering from a 83 million dollar shortcoming on a $455 million budget.

About 80% of voters backed the marijuana tax and with the backing of the oakland city council, this legislation shows just how widespread the acceptance of the normalization of cannabis really is.

With the polls showing  56%  of californians in support of legalization and taxation, this experimental tax of cannabis is exactly what other politicians need to show them that legalization and taxation can really help with the state deficit.

Legalize 2010

Legalization 2010!!! For AB390 to pass californians are going to have to band together and gather enough signatures to get it on the ballot.

Lets go fellow Californians!!! I wish I could be down there doing my part alas I am living up here in the north and can’t.

The DEA continues to bring the ideals and practices of the Nazi SS to North America.

The DEA continues to bring the ideals and practices of the Nazi SS to North America.

The following is quoted from Salem-News.com HERE

In spite of recent announcements by the Attorney General that the days of federal agents raiding legal medical marijuana dispensaries are over, the Sheriff of Kern County, California utilized agents from the federal Drug Enforcement Agency Wednesday in its raid of a medical marijuana dispensary in east Bakersfield Wednesday afternoon.

Local TV station KGET 17 News reports that the search warrant was served on the Green Cross Compassionate Medical Marijuana Co-operative at 319 Bernard Street in Bakersfield.

The station’s Website stated that their calls to the sheriff’s department were not immediately returned. They did contact the DEA who reportedly stated that the agency was there only to assist, insisting that the lead agency on the case was the sheriff’s department.

The story is taking place a couple of hours east of Morro Bay, California, where lawful medical marijuana dispensary owner Charles Lynch was singled out by the local sheriff who also used the DEA to conduct their raid.

Medical marijuana is legal in California and Attorney General Eric Holder recently said federal agents will no longer be utilized to raid dispensaries unless they are violating both federal and state law.

Sheriff Donny Youngblood told KGET 17 News that his office will not interfere with the operation of non-profit medical co-operatives run by patients for patients. But, he said dispensaries that sell marijuana for a profit should be expected to be treated like other drug dealers.

This is absolutely infuriating. How can law enforcement be allowed to abuse their power in such an obviously illegal way? The statement made by Attorney General Eric Holder is now officially meaningless.

“Dispensaries that sell marijuana for a profit should be expected to be treated like other drug dealers” This is the most ignorant statement I have heard in the media in the past month. This tops Glen Beck’s Singaporean drug law statement. How can a legal business be required to operate for no profit when one of the most profitable industries in America is pharmaceuticals. These two industries, marijuana and pharmaceuticals, are providing the same services and providing health care and medicine for sick people. Why is there a double standard for these two industries which are essentially providing the same service?

This sheriff in Bakersfield is acting on his own in order to push his own moral ignorance on the subject of marijuana. This can not be allowed to continue! Call your legislators and DEMAND that they change their policies of attacking law abiding citizens for doing when they (AND CALIFORNIA LAW!) believe is legal.

Peace and keep blowing that smoke proud,

Check this out, I pulled this from an article on NORML’s website. The Original Ariticle is HERE:

September 7, 2006 – Washington, DC, USA

Washington, DC: More than 98 percent of all of the marijuana plants seized by law enforcement in the United States is feral hemp not cultivated cannabis, according to newly released data by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) Domestic Cannabis Eradication/Suppression Program and the Sourcebook of Criminal Justice Statistics.

According to the data, available online at:http://www.albany.edu/sourcebook/pdf/t4382005.pdf, of the estimated 223 million marijuana plants destroyed by law enforcement in 2005, approximately 219 million were classified as “ditchweed,” a term the agency uses to define “wild, scattered marijuana plants [with] no evidence of planting, fertilizing, or tending.” Unlike cultivated marijuana, feral hemp contains virtually no detectable levels of THC, the psychoactive component in cannabis, and does not contribute to the black market marijuana trade.

So if 98% of the plants they have been burning are wild hemp, left over from the days when the cultivation of hemp was legal and encouraged, Why the hell are they getting paid so much? Their job isn’t fighting drug cartels, their job isn’t fighting drug dealers, 98% of their job is acting as gardeners for a government that feels some “weeding”, pardon the pun, needs to be done on their land. This is a blatant waste of tax payer’s money fighting a plant that anywhere else in the western world would be cherished as a blessing and a lucrative resource. Even if you do not support the legalization of Marijuana, you can not deny the fact that Industrial Hemp is an enormous economic stimulus as well as a stepping stone to sustainability. The DEA is acting on behalf of the government to make sure that the US stays a capitalist consumer nation by destroying all hopes for a sustainable economy. They don’t want you growing your own medicine, and they sure don’t want to let a weed grow that could become the largest natural resource for half of the industries in North America. Textiles, plastics, petroleum products can all be replaced by introducing industrial hemp In to the United States and in doing so would open millions of jobs for Americans to make the switch to a “Green” (I feel like an episode of Scooby Doo) Nation. It just makes sense and there are countless experts to back up this claim. There is no reason industrial hemp should have ever been grouped with marijuana and its time they fix this mistake and help fix our economy.

Peace,
King of Hearts
